Uffelman Estates was filled with people on Wednesday July 19.
Twenty-eight vendors and nearly 200 people attended their Senior
Health Expo.
Dr. Bill Beauchamp
was one of the keynote speakers discussing the cause and affect
of osteoporosis. In osteoporosis,
the inside of the bones become porous from a loss of calcium.
This is called losing bone mass. Over time, this weakens the
bones and
makes them more likely to break. Even though osteoporosis is
much more common in women than in men, Dr. Beauchamp was quick
to tell
the audience that osteoporosis is not a female only disease and
that men should be aware the measures available to prevent or
slow the progression of osteoporosis.
Melody Walls, Certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and Wound
Care specialist screened patients for Peripheral Arterial
Disease. More
than 30 attendees participated in the screening. The Expo provided educational information for all areas of life,
entertainment, food and lots of fun for those who attended. Darlene
and Ronnie Peck, Managers of Uffelman Estates plan to make this
an annual event. It was a very successful day with twenty-eight
vendors and nearly 200 participants
