H1N1 - Many people are concerned about the H1N1 flu virus. Center for Disease Control has determined that this new H1N1 virus is contagious and is spreading from person to person, probably like seasonal flu. The symptoms of the H1N1 virus are similar to the symptoms of the seasonal flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. A significant number of people have also reported diarrhea and vomiting.
Most of the people who have been sick with the virus in the U.S. have recovered at home without treatment. If your child has flu-like symptoms, please keep him or her at home for seven day or 24 hours after symptoms resolve, unless given other instructions by your physician or staff.
Like seasonal flu, complications can occur with the H1N1 flu. Seek emergency medical care if your child becomes ill and experiences any of the following warning signs:
- Fast breathing
- Trouble breathing
- Bluish or gray skin color
- Not drinking enough fluids
- Not urinating as much as usual
- Severe or persistent vomiting
- Not waking up or interacting as usual
- Being so irritable that your child does not even want to be held
- Fever returns after being absent for a day, or a significant change in fever pattern occurs. For example, it was 101 degrees Fahrenehit for several days and now it is 103 degrees.
It is important that your child not be exposed to other children who are sick, and that if your child has a flu-like illness that he or she does not expose other people, in order to keep from spreading illness.
Here are some things you can do to keep you and your child healthy:
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you do not have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands. Put your used tissue in the waste basket.
- Wash hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol based hand cleaner.
- Avoid close contact with sick people.
- If you or your child get sick with a flu-like illness, stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
- Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
For more information on H1N1 please visit the Center for Disease Control website: www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu

PMG Sponsors Pass N Go Program - Clarksville-Montgomery County School System, Joe Heitz Toyota and Premier Medical Group partnered to increase the number of students who take Advanced Placement courses and pass the exam. Students in the district’s high schools were eligible to win a new car and one of 12 laptops. There were 249 students in the district eligible to participate in the giveaway. In addition, Premier Medical Group provided each participant with a complimentary flash drive. Mike Harris, Director of Schools says, “I am thankful that we have so many businesses and individuals in our community who are willing to help us recognize students for their hard work and also support our district programs.” Without the support of our community we would not be able to have such events and rewards.” In recognition for their support of the program, The Clarksville Montgomery County School Board presented Premier Medical Group with the Point of Pride Award.

Mammography Services Available - Premier's Imaging Center is now offering diagnistic and screening mammograms. Women who undergo mammograms at Premier Medical Group’s Imaging Center now have the latest diagnostic technology available to them, digital mammography. Digital mammography is different from conventional mammography in how the image of the breast is acquired and, more importantly, viewed. The radiologist can magnify the images, increase or decrease the contrast and invert the black and white values while reading the images. These features allow the radiologist to evaluate microcalcifications and focus on areas of concern.
PMG Named Better Performing Group - For the sixth year in a row, Premier Medical Group has been recognized by the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) as a Better Performing Practice in the Performance and Practices of Successful Medical Groups. MGMA obtained financial and operations data through a survey of its members conducted in 2008. Information related to the 2007 fiscal year was used to identify the Better Performing Practices. Overall, MGMA selected over 300 medical groups as better performers. Specific areas of recognition included Productivity, Capacity and Staffing.
Imaging Center Receives Accreditation. Premier Medical Group is pleased to announce it's Imaging Center has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in Ultrasound, Mammography, CT, and MRI as the result of recent surveys by the American College of Radiology. The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards. Evaluations are conducted by board certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report. Premier Medical Group’s Imaging Center is the only facility in the Clarksville community to have accreditation in CT and Ultrasound.
