Traveling with a Baby: Trains, Hotels, and Friends' Homes

HINTS FOR TRAIN TRAVEL:

Babies under the age of 2 years travel free on Amtrak.
Try to get seats facing each other, so you can put the baby in the seat across from you.
Temperatures can change on the train, so dress your baby in layers of clothing and remove or add as necessary.
Be sure to bring appropriate food. Most trains have at least snack bars where the staff can warm a bottle for you.

HINTS FOR VISITING HOTELS OR FRIENDS' HOMES:

Take along electrical plug covers for outlets in the house.
If you travel frequently, it may be wise to invest in a portable bed carrier for baby--that way you can confine the baby and you'll sleep more easily.
Always carry a bottle of syrup of Ipecac in your diaper bag in case of accidental poisoning while away from home.
